Nesting:
The kingfisher, the grey wagtail, and the wren build nests in the bank of the Jeker, each in its own way. The kingfisher digs a tunnel in a steep bank wall. The grey wagtail uses cavities in the bank and the wren makes a nest of twigs, mosses, and leaves in cavities between tree roots or bushes on the bank.
Diet:
These three bird species also rely on the banks of the Jeker for food. The kingfisher uses overhanging branches as a vantage point for its lightning-fast dives for fish. The grey wagtail hops from rock to rock or over the edge of the bank in search of insects. The wren combs the shrubs, roots, and soil on the bank for insects.
