Lime tree

Explanation

Lime trees are well represented within the grounds of Tapijn. Near the bridge to Nieuwenhofpoortje, there is a native lime tree (tilia platyphyllos) and, further along, there is a group of silver lime trees (tilia tomentosa) near the semi-circular stone bench. There is also a large lime tree in the animal park. When they are in bloom, in the months of June and July, you can smell the sweet smell of lime from afar. The smell attracts a lot of bees and bumblebees. Lime blossoms are rich in nectar, and when the lime trees bloom you can not only smell them, but you can also hear bees buzzing from a distance.
