History of Tapijn C2 The new enlisted men's mess

The building has a load-bearing concrete structure with wall surfaces of yellow brick. Under the eaves of the main volume, concrete moulding with diamond shapes has been applied.

The entrance on the east side has a wide, plastered block frame and renovated doors. To the left and right of the entrance, there are small rectangular windows with ceramic sills and steel four-pane windows. On the south side, the main volume has lower fronts that span the entire façade, with concrete pillars and steel windows.

The building housed a room for enlisted men, a billiard room, and a reading and writing room. Several rooms in the mess were decorated with murals.

After the Dutch soldiers were replaced by international AFCENT units in 1967, the mess was named the Anchor Inn and remained in use as a bar. Today, the building is used by Maastricht University.
