This way, we hope to be able to track how these birds build their nests, how they lay eggs, and how they raise their young. In nature – and in the city – these birds nest in cavities. This includes all kinds of cavities.
The great spotted woodpecker is a forest dweller and carves its nest into softer types of trees. It is also increasingly common in parks and gardens, which is why we have placed a nesting box for the great spotted woodpecker in the willow opposite the aviary.
