History of Tapijn D Parade ground and lodging buildings

Explanation

The three large lodging buildings and the parade ground with the cenotaph for General Dibbets are located in the centre of Tapijn. Most of the enlisted men on the site were housed in the lodging buildings. The three buildings were built during the first construction period. The parade ground is the central square within the barracks where roll calls were held every morning and where official assemblies, such as swearing in, took place. In 1927, General Dibbets’ cenotaph, an empty tomb, was placed here.
