Deer
Explanation
When the animal park opened in 1920, there were red deer in it. There are roe deer – white and normal ones – and an axisdeer. The latter stems from India and resembles a roe deer; however the color is more reddish brown and the dots extend further to its belly.
Artist Roel van Wijlick has already made sure the red deer is present in another form. He used one of the trees that had to make way for the renovations taking place within Tapijn to create this beautiful deer-shaped tree-sculpture.

Hunting, roads, and fences are a threat to red deer in the Netherlands. Deer are often among traffic casualties, and are known to flee from wandering dogs and noisy visitors
